Have not really unpacked yet -- just moved a week ago. A friend came over today (a sax player) and unexpectedly brought his shakuhachi and began to play. He says he brought it because he wanted to hear how it sounded in the living room which has a high ceiling. It sounded great. What is a shakuhachi? http://www.shakuhachi.com/
Liked this window display in Osaka for the type and depth that's created. Also, I myself have a new commitment to running this year since we moved to the country. The city was getting me down running wise. Now I feel like my old self and am determined to get back into shape - much easier to do in the country. Loving Nara life so far....
Just moved in so there are boxes everywhere. Office is a mess of boxes so I'm working in the dining room - hope my wife doesn't find out...:-) btw, Steve's iPad keynote on Apple's QuickTime /guide page. Just go to Apple.com and find link at bottom of page.
Too tight and too loose all in the same word. What app (or font) allowed this to happen? (It is probably a Japanese font that does not deal well with Romaji I guess. ) Saw this on campus today.
Rock-n-roll! Bill has transformed his presentation style (at least the visuals). Here is the link to the video: http://snipurl.com/u5glm Going to have to write a post on this asap. I like the "save the world Bill" much more than the "Microsoft Bill" in terms of presentation visuals. He and Melinda do a great job! I salute you, sir. (iPhone pic taken seconds ago in my office at the university in Osaka, Japan)
The 7 member band was great (including two original Beach Boys; I think Love must have a license to use the "The Beach Boys" name for these tours). Really liked the drummer. On the left is Mike Love (and that's his son Christian Love next to him I think). Bruce Johnston is on keyboard/vocal on the right out of frame. They were really fantastic!
Above is a short clip from the iPhone. Mike love asked us to get out our cell phones to use as lighters as we swayed to the music. So, why not record a few moments of the show since all the cell phones are out? The iPhone mic is pretty bad indeed (doesn't take much to distort the input, but the music was pretty loud for the poor 'ol iPhone). The iPhone does not do it justice -- it sounded great live.
Hanging out with friends from the expat biz community after the show. Seriously, this show was much more fun that I expected. The audience really ate it up. Loads of fun.
