Walked to our local shrine a few hours before the new year. Happy New Year, everyone!

From midnight tonight—and especially from the AM tomorrow—this shrine will be crowded with visitors. But we walked there from our house early as we need to get out daughter to sleep. In fact in this pic she looks very sleepy and fell asleep shortly after this. We also stopped by our neighborhood temple to ring the bell.

A few pics from the shrine. The last pic shows where they will build a fire to keep people warm tonight and tomorrow.

Child art increases effectiveness of warning signs

Photo

People park bikes illegally on top of "no bike parking" signs in Osaka all the time. But who can illegally park over a child's work of art? No one it seems. Each sign featured contributions from different children. Here all signs are obeyed, but the same signs across the street without the children's art work were ignored as usual and the sidewalk was lined with illegally parked bikes. 面白い!

A box of 2nd edition Presentation Zen books arrived at home today in Nara!

Although I did the design and all the layout in InDesign, I had never actually seen the book before it was printed by the publisher in the USA. So I was pretty excited (and nervous) to get this box packed full of the new book. It is thicker than the first book as it is about 70 pages longer, but otherwise has the same look and feel. It is the same book, but it is better. I am much happier with this book than the first one. This edition should be available just after Christmas (check it out on Amazon). BTW, you can see my cats under the tree were not as excited as I was.
