Garr,

While short and simple, Sir Ken's story is amazing.

As for me, probably my greatest inspiration still comes from one of my former school teachers. As time has passed, she has become a mentor of mine that I am still lucky to be around, even to this day.

Her story is like most of us, fairly normal. But, what makes her extraordinary is her spirit and the impact she has had on countless thousands over the years - not only in the content that she taught, but the civil, political and historical perspective she continues to bring so many of us. She taught us not only English literature and proper journalism, but (more importantly) how to become socially responsible people capable of loving and impacting others in society.

I, and so many others, am constantly inspired by what she still teaches us in life. My thanks to her will never be enough for what she has done for me, both then and now. -DS

Thanks Dave. For me it is many things and not really one person. But my father still sticks with me even though he died when I was young. He was a head of his time in many ways on the issues of race and discrimination, etc. That impacted me from a young age in the '60s during the civil rights movement, Vietnam, etc. I still remember how he argued against the poison (and stupidity) of discrimination against the poor, or racism, etc. in our house. I think I learned to root for the underdog back then and sort of believe in idealism since I had a father who, in spite of his problems, was idealistic and a good, simple hard-working man. Funny how that stays with you.

Garr, I agree w/ you (and your father) exactly. He sounds like a terrific guy. And thank you for the response thread. Based on your synopsis, I'm sure your family is extremely proud of the legacy that you have continued forward.

Hi Garr, I am a huge fan of Ken Robinson and have viewed his TED talk about schools killing creativity many times. I was inspired when I first learned about Ken but this video just blew me away - what an truely remarkable story. Many thanks for this great link. Thanks,Marie
